Stick out your Neck

“Who do YOU say that I am?”  The disciples must have taken a deep breath when Jesus asked them this question, not sure what to say.  Finally Peter, always impetuous Peter, spoke up and declared that Jesus was “the Christ, the Son of the living God”.  Like a turtle sticking out its neck, Peter declared himself.  That is not something that one declares, and then sinks back into oblivion – it is a declaration of commitment to Jesus!  If he truly believed what he said, it meant that he had to obey and follow what Jesus asked and said.  This would imply conforming his life to the teachings of Jesus, to live (as a disciple) as the Master does.  If he took it seriously, this declaration would change his life forever.

Once Bogdan Janski, Peter Semenenko and Jerome Kajsiewicz declared themselves for Christ their lives were never the same!  They changed their ways of being, even their friendships, in order to mirror the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Sounds pretty scary when we think that we too must declare who Jesus is for us!  Are we willing to stick out our neck?  Are we willing to ‘pay’ the consequences of that declaration?
