Father Ray Hofmann CR called to new life...
The Congregation of the Resurrection announces the death of Father Hofmann, Thursday, May 9, 2013 in Louisville, KY. He was 84 years old, vowed religious for 63 years and in his 56th year of the priesthood.
Father Ray is predeceased by his parents, Karl and Mary Byrne Hofmann, and is the beloved brother of Mary Rose Klueber and Albert A. Hofmann and their families. He attended Holy Trinity, Holy Name and Holy Cross Grade Schools, and graduated from St. Mary’s College in Marion County. Father attended the University of Western Ontario and St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario, Canada. He was ordained to the Priesthood on June 2, 1956 in London.
Father Ray served in pastoral ministry in Ontario including St. Joseph’s in Hamilton, 1957-1962 and again from 1979-1985; St. Mary’s in Kitchener, 1962-1965; St. Francis, Kitchener, 1965-1969 and St. Louis in Waterloo, 1977-1979. In Louisville, he served at St. Cecilia 1969-1974, 1975-1977, and from 1986 until 1993; Resurrection Church, 1974-1975 and 1993-1999; Guardian Angels, 1999-2002. He retired to St. Cecilia-Villa Pacis religious house in Louisville.
Throughout his retirement, he provided part-time ministry at St. Martin of Tours, St. Frances of Rome, Cathedral of the Assumption and St. Joseph Children’s Home. Father Ray will be remembered for his lively sense of humor, his strong faith, and dedicated ministry which enabled him to touch the lives of many people during his life of faithful service. He was also an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 12th from 2-8 p.m. at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, and at St. Martin of Tours Church, 639 S. Shelby St. after 10 a.m. Monday. Father’s Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Noon Monday at the church, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent in his memory to the Congregation of the Resurrection, for the care of their retired members and forwarded to 265 Westmount Road North, Waterloo, ON N2L 3G7.
